1. Choose a training goal & location

These choices narrow reference programmes. They do not determine admission or change figures already in your comparison.

2. Enter whole-programme costs

Use one complete course/credential attempt per option. Include required exams and licensing, plus extra living costs caused by training. Leave unknown items blank; enter 0 only when an item has no cost. Aid must cover this same period.

Option 1

Costs for this option
Confirmed nonrepayable support

Exclude loans, unconfirmed awards and money already deducted from a net quote. Employer support here covers confirmed tuition/school fees only.

Optional: time, work & payback assumptions

Use elapsed calendar weeks, including breaks. Use take-home pay, not gross salary or an occupational median. Income given up covers unpaid training and any waiting period, after training pay. Additional earnings above your usual pay during training are not credited by this model. Do not count training wages again as grant aid.

Payback is a scenario, not a wage, job or investment-return forecast. Missing assumptions stay unknown. This model excludes payment/reimbursement timing, financing charges, future tax changes, employment probability and changes in hours or pay.

All monetary figures are USD. Current monthly take-home pay: Unknown. Goal: Not selected. Location: Not selected.

Before committing to a course

  • Get a dated, itemized quote, payment/reimbursement dates and refund/cancellation terms.
  • Confirm course approval, credential requirements and which exam attempts are included.
  • Confirm aid and employer retention/repayment conditions; avoid counting the same support twice.
  • Check the actual timetable, work you may miss, childcare and job-search buffer.
  • Use a realistic offer or your own pay scenario. Recalculate if the costs, work hours or expected start change.

Where to start

STEP 1

Start with an itemized quote

Use the full programme or credential attempt for every option. Include exams, licensing and extra living costs; avoid subtracting aid twice from a net-price quote.

STEP 2

Confirm what the support covers

Use only confirmed aid for these costs and this period. Tuition-only help and employer tuition/fee support have separate caps. Loans and training pay are not grant awards.

STEP 3

Test realistic work assumptions

Use your own current and after-training take-home pay. Include missed pay, extra ongoing work costs and a waiting period. A short course or occupational median does not establish a job offer.

How the comparison is calculated

All cost entries cover the complete programme or credential attempt. Total quoted cost is tuition + school fees + books/equipment + required exams/licenses/checks + extra living/travel/childcare costs.

Tuition-only aid is capped at tuition. Employer tuition/fee support applies to the remaining tuition and school fees, then other confirmed grants apply to the remaining modeled costs. Exam/licensing, books and living expenses are outside that employer tuition/fee bucket. Excess entered aid never becomes a negative bill or a promised refund.

The cost left after aid plus take-home pay given up before new work is the modeled amount to recover. Monthly gain is after-training take-home pay minus current take-home pay minus extra ongoing work costs. For a positive gain, recovery months = that amount ÷ monthly gain. Time from training start adds training weeks + waiting weeks + recovery months × 52 ÷ 12. Use elapsed calendar weeks, including breaks, rather than instructional weeks alone. The year-to-week conversion is an approximation; no calendar date is predicted.

Unquoted costs, unknown aid and missing pay/time assumptions stay unknown. An option with no positive monthly gain does not show a recovery period. Payment/reimbursement timing, financing charges, future wage changes, job probability, tax changes, work-hour changes and benefits are outside this model. Regular living costs are not extra training costs. Additional earnings above your usual pay during training are not credited here. Review employer repayment obligations separately.

Questions about this comparison

Is this a certificate ROI or salary forecast?

No. It uses the pay figures you enter. It does not load an occupational median, estimate taxes or predict whether or when you will find work.

Why are some results still unknown?

A blank cost or aid field has not been confirmed. Enter 0 only when the item has no cost or no confirmed aid. Payback also needs income assumptions; time from the start needs training and waiting weeks.

What if the monthly increase is zero or negative?

The model shows no positive monthly gain and does not display a recovery period. You can still compare the course costs and decide whether a different scenario or nonfinancial goal matters.
