COMPARE HOW THE COST IS COVERED

Paid Apprenticeships: Compare Training & Work Terms

Compare an earn-while-learning route with a course-only plan. Find the actual opening, check the qualification and read the employment and training terms.

Where to start

STEP 1

Identify the occupation and opening

Use the registered-apprenticeship starting point and the training pathways to identify which occupation you want to pursue.

STEP 2

Check the employer’s actual terms

Ask about entry requirements, work hours, wage progression, instruction and the costs you must pay.

STEP 3

Compare the qualification

Confirm what credential or completion record you earn and how it fits any state licensing requirements.

Registered Apprenticeship

Employer-paid

What the source says it covers

Registered Apprenticeship combines a paid job, mentoring, related classroom instruction and progressive wages with a portable nationally recognized credential. This national route describes the model; the employer/sponsor supplies the actual opening, pay schedule and training terms.
As of Oct 16, 2026 · U.S. Department of Labor ↗

An important condition

Use a real employer or programme sponsor opportunity, apply directly and meet its selection requirements. Contact that sponsor for occupation-specific prerequisites, work/training location and current intake; this page does not establish a universal age, diploma or entry-test rule.
As of Oct 16, 2026 · U.S. Department of Labor ↗

Before you commit

Paid employment does not by itself prove that every tuition, equipment or travel cost is covered. Wage, duration, admission, classroom costs and any contractual repayment obligations must be confirmed with the actual sponsor; no universal pay or zero-cost quote is published here.

WIOA training and career services

Free if eligible

What the source says it covers

American Job Centers offer free employment help, career counseling and access to training services. Services vary by location; this is a starting point for an individual training assessment, not a national fixed-dollar voucher.

An important condition

Ask the local center which Adult, Dislocated Worker or other workforce route fits your circumstances. Some services have eligibility requirements and local policies vary; unemployment or a low-income tag alone does not approve a course.
As of Oct 16, 2026 · U.S. Department of Labor ↗

Before you commit

Free career services and an eligible-training listing are not a personal grant approval. There is no universal voucher cap, guaranteed remaining-cost amount or national application closing date established by these sources.

Job Corps

Free if eligible

What the source says it covers

Eligible students receive no-cost career training. Job Corps lists housing, food, health/dental care, basic training uniforms/equipment and a biweekly basic living allowance, alongside education and job-placement assistance. This is support during training, not a guaranteed job or a quoted salary.
As of Oct 16, 2026 · Job Corps ↗

An important condition

Generally ages 16–24, with citizenship/residency/work-authorization and other admissions conditions. Some people with disabilities may receive an upper-age waiver; ask admissions about the actual case instead of assuming everyone over 24 is excluded.
As of Oct 16, 2026 · Job Corps ↗

Before you commit

An application or age-range match is not acceptance. Timing varies, and high-demand trades may have waiting lists; confirm current campus/trade openings and the actual enrollment offer rather than assuming a national open seat.
