What it covers
For eligible CCRI associate-degree students, covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees after other grants/scholarships, ordinarily for fall and spring over two academic years.
Income / financial rules
The published eligibility list is based on residency, recent graduation/entry and academic conditions; students complete a financial-aid file, and other grants are applied first. No household-income cutoff is modeled here.
Who to check first
Qualify for Rhode Island in-state tuition and ordinarily be younger than 19 when completing high school or a GED. Graduates aged 19, 20 or 21 must submit an appeal; this is an age-at-graduation test, not a universal current-age cap.
Application timing
CCRI encourages students to complete the financial-aid file by April 1 and to apply early. This is an annual recommended priority, not a sourced year-specific final deadline; entry/appeal timing still matters.

Check your eligibility

Some items describe alternative routes rather than requirements for everyone. Use the route that applies to you as a preparation checklist; the program makes the eligibility decision.

How to apply

  1. 1
Apply to CCRI, complete the relevant FAFSA and financial-aid file, and submit the final high-school/GED transcript. For fall 2026 entry, CCRI identifies the 2026/2027 FAFSA.
  2. 2
In MyCCRI, use My Financial Aid Dashboard → Student Requirements → Rhode Island Promise Application; complete the age, review and signature steps and submit. Finish outstanding verification requirements for the right award year.
  3. 3
Submit any graduation-age appeal, written entry deferral or disability-accommodation request to the relevant CCRI office, then renew the FAFSA for year two even though the scholarship normally renews automatically.

What to watch for

Textbooks are excluded. Summer assistance is limited by available programme funding and is not guaranteed; do not assume the winter/summer credits needed for your plan will all be funded.
An older adult returning years after school should check other CCRI aid rather than assume Promise eligibility. Recent-entry, graduation-age and associate-degree conditions still apply.
Students are asked to commit to staying in RI after the award, but CCRI’s FAQ says there is no penalty for leaving the state.
