What it covers
American Job Centers offer free employment help, career counseling and access to training services. Services vary by location; this is a starting point for an individual training assessment, not a national fixed-dollar voucher.
Income / financial rules
WIOA Adult training gives priority to public-assistance recipients, low-income people and people with basic-skills deficiencies. Dislocated-worker services address qualifying job loss; veterans have service priority. These are programme-specific assessments, not one national income ceiling or automatic approval.

Who to check first
Ask the local center which Adult, Dislocated Worker or other workforce route fits your circumstances. Some services have eligibility requirements and local policies vary; unemployment or a low-income tag alone does not approve a course.

Application timing
Local intake, training start dates and available funding determine timing. Contact your American Job Center; no single national year-specific application deadline is established here.

Check your eligibility

Some items describe alternative routes rather than requirements for everyone. Use the route that applies to you as a preparation checklist; the program makes the eligibility decision.

How to apply

  1. 1
Use CareerOneStop’s American Job Center finder: enter a city, state or ZIP, find the center’s contact details and ask about its actual training services, registration and intake.
  2. 2
Request an eligibility and career/training assessment. Ask which funding stream applies, which documents it needs and whether local funding is available before making a tuition commitment.
  3. 3
Check the state’s WIOA-eligible training directory. Use Local Training Finder for programmes/providers near your location; verify the specific course’s approval with the center rather than assuming a school listing establishes funding.
  4. 4
Before enrolling, ask for the approved training costs, any remaining fees/equipment/exam costs, timing and other-aid coordination in writing. Ask separately whether transport, childcare or other supportive services are available locally.

What to watch for

Free career services and an eligible-training listing are not a personal grant approval. There is no universal voucher cap, guaranteed remaining-cost amount or national application closing date established by these sources.
Supportive-service information or a referral does not promise that your childcare, transport or tuition will be paid. Confirm the actual award and other aid with the center; do not add an assumed WIOA amount on top of a Pell estimate.
Course lengths and local rules differ. The national training overview describes programmes typically lasting up to two years with local exceptions; it is not a two-year entitlement or an assurance that a particular intake is available.
