Check your eligibility

Some items describe alternative routes rather than requirements for everyone. Use the route that applies to you as a preparation checklist; the program makes the eligibility decision.

How to apply

  1. 1
Submit the FAFSA or, if eligible as an NJ Dreamer, the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application for the correct year. Filing either application automatically puts you into CCOG consideration.
  2. 2
Log into NJFAMS, complete every To Do List item, and meet your cohort’s application and document deadlines. An incomplete application does not extend the deadline.
  3. 3
Ask your county college for its award notice and an itemized bill showing approved fees, other grants and the in-county tuition calculation.

What to watch for

Out-of-county surcharges are not covered. Books, supplies/uniforms, licensing/certification fees, parking and other excluded charges can remain payable.
Do not use the spring-only deadline for a fall application. For 2027–28, prior-year TAG recipients have an April 15, 2027 filing deadline; other fall applicants have September 15, 2027. Check the separate NJFAMS completion deadlines too.
The financial-aid award is determined by the college. If the determination appears wrong, HESAA describes a written appeal within 60 days of the initial eligibility/ineligibility notification.
