What it covers
The grant reduces approved college costs; amounts depend on financial circumstances, attendance cost, timing and available funds. The posted dollar range is for 2025–26, not a verified maximum for a later award year.
Income / financial rules
VSAC considers income, assets, family size, the older parent’s age and school cost. There is no single household-income ceiling established by this grant FAQ.
Who to check first
Be a Vermont resident accepted/enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate degree/certificate programme approved for federal Title IV aid. Approved schools can be inside or outside Vermont.
Application timing
Apply for the intended academic year as early as possible; funding is first-come while available. Pathway pages list separate 2026–27 and 2027–28 college forms; no single final ISO deadline is established here.

Check your eligibility

Some items describe alternative routes rather than requirements for everyone. Use the route that applies to you as a preparation checklist; the program makes the eligibility decision.

How to apply

  1. 1
Create/sign into MyVSAC, choose Work with Grants and Apply for a Vermont Grant, and file FAFSA each school year. FAFSA alone does not complete the VSAC application.
  2. 2
If ineligible to complete FAFSA, use the correct-year Vermont Grant Pathway form and return it to VSAC. Its college route and Advancement nondegree route are different applications.
  3. 3
Check the MyVSAC To-Do List and View Awards; supply requested family documents through the secure upload. Notify VSAC and the new college if transferring.

What to watch for

Apply annually; approval and amount are not guaranteed. Applications are first-come while funds remain, and the historical dollar range must not be treated as a current personal award.
If income falls, contact VSAC and the college separately for review. Correct an application through VSAC instead of submitting a duplicate.
